Who can attend the Heart Pine Community Art Studio?
Activity is recommended for adults and any child age 8 or older accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Is this like other group painting activities?
Heart Pine Community Art Studio purpose is to bring the community together in a safe space to make art alongside others from a variety of backgrounds. Participants can meet new people and share about hopes and desires for our community. Artmaking encourages expression, empowerment, and personal growth.
What if I can only draw stick figures?
Please come! No prior art skills are required. The studio space is free of judgment and upholds a place for free expression and creativity.
Do you provide step-by-step instructions for artmaking?
The Heart Pine Community Art Studio supports an atmosphere of experimentation and free expression, so projects are open so you can express your personal creativity.
What kind of art activities are provided?
The leader will share a small piece of local history each week and participants are invited to make response art alongside one another. The leader may suggest certain art materials or demonstrate artmaking techniques, but all participants can freely choose their approach or seek assistance where needed.
Do you discuss the images?
Participants can discuss but are not required to share about their own images or the experience.
Are there group projects?
Yes, some activities may include ways for the group to interact together with their images.
Is this art therapy?
Heart Pine Community Art Studio is based on therapeutic art practices: providing a safe, open space for creation; active artmaking, honoring individuals’ values; promoting personal insight and growth; enhancing social interaction, and supporting the community. Group is led by Andrea Sutrick, graduate of a Masters-level Art Therapy program.
Is there a cost?
This is an open studio. Sessions are free. Participants are open to bring other art supplies to use or to donate for group use.
